Iranian Ambassador in Russia Kazem Jalali had a visit to Astrakhan Oblast where he met Babushkin and the two had conversation on economic ties.
In the meeting, Babushkin referred to his recent trip to Tehran and meeting with the head of Iran’s Mostazafan Foundation, saying that good agreements were reached on that trip and it was proposed that the foundation base its companies in special economic zone Lotus in Astrakhan.
Ambassador Jalali, in turn, described Astrakhan as Iran’s entry gate to Russia’s economy and said that the region was of strategic importance to Iran for that reason.
He urged strengthening of maritime communication, emphasizing that Astrakhan was located at the heart of Iran-Russia maritime connection.
Iranian diplomat also underlined that Tehran was determined to have the north-south corridor completed and it was agreed between Iran, Russia and India.
